Although twenty-five years ago the music of Grieg enjoyed great popularity and he was generally considered to be one of the great figures of the second half of the nineteenth century, except for a handful of his works, such as the ' Peer Gynt ' Suite, his music is unjustly ignored today. One of the most neglected branches of Grieg's art is his songs, a number of which may well bear comparison with those of the finest of the great German Lieder composers. The group to be heard this afternoon will give some small idea of the many treasures waiting to be unearthed by the enterprising sincer.
