'Outback Emergency'
Written by Peter Middleton
Produced by Alan Burgess
In January, 1951, in an area of several hundred square miles of the hinterland of Cairns in Queensland, Australia, there was a polio epidemic. It coincided with the worst wet season for years. The aerial ambulance service was grounded, and Superintendent Clarke of the ambulance centre faced the worst crisis in its history.
