First of a two-part mini-series about passion and conflict, set on a remote island off the coast of Australia in the 1920s.
Brimming with missionary zeal, Dr Kate Munro arrives on Gannet Island to take up a medical practice. She is particularly keen to introduce the marvels of modern medicine to the "backward" islanders, who lead conservative lives ruled by ingrained traditions. Kate is swept off her feet by handsome Vic Hanlon , a wealthy landowner, and despite ideological differences they are irresistibly drawn to each other.
