Child Prodigies
With Richard Baker. Franz Schubert 's musical talents were recognised early in his life, when a music teacher declared that lessons were not required: "If I wanted to teach the boy anything, he already knew it." Schubert's budding genius soon came to the attention of Vienna's leading musical authority - Antonio Salieri - who gave him composition lessons and advised that he should compete for a place in the imperial chapel choir, which came with a choral scholarship to the best school in Vienna.
