The Best
The founder of H. H. Martyn and Co, a unique firm of art craftsmen, demanded only one thing from his employees: that they gave their best.
For almost a century, Martyn's produced some of the finest wood-carving, bronze castings, wrought iron, sculpture, decorative plasterwork and furniture in the world.
They built the Speaker's Chair, St Paul 's pulpit and the Cenotaph. They decorated the interior of ocean liners, stately homes, council chambers, and even founded the famous
Gloster Aircraft Company.
The firm folded in ]971, victims of changing tastes and times, and is hardly remembered in its home town of Cheltenham.
