The life and times of Hermione Gingold 1: Beginnings
My memories don't go back very far. I mean I can't remember being born for instance, though my mother assured me they did say' What a very ugly baby that is! ' And I grew up to be a beautiful child, and reverted to complete ugliness later on in life - ugliness but attractiveness, I am glad to say.
In this series of six programmes, one of the great entertainers of our time talks about herself in conversations recorded recently in her New York apartment, with recordings of some of her performances in a long and distinguished career, including revue and cabaret, the Broadway stage and the concert hall, and Hollywood.
