1: Disinherited and driven from home when his true parentage is discovered, Richard Devine is caught up in a strange twist of fate: under the name of 'Rufus Dawes', he is accused of murdering his real father and faces the terrible penalty - transportation from England to Australia 'for the term of his natural life'.
