The World Figure Skating Championships

on BBC One London

by satellite from Tokyo

Featuring The Ice Dancing Championship

It is unlikely that the North American dancers, or indeed any other couple, can seriously challenge the European Champions Irina Moiseeva and Andrej Minenkov of the Soviet Union. Irina's beautifully expressive hands and classic features may sometimes distract attention from the skill of their skating but they should prove worthy successors to the legendary Ludmila Pakhomova and Alexander Gorshkov. British champions Janet Thompson and Warren Maxwell will be among the contenders for the silver and bronze medals. News too of the Men's competition in which Robin Cousins will be carrying British hopes.
