Keyboard a la King

on BBC Radio 3

By the end of the 1940s, Nat King Cole the jazz pianist was being overtaken by Nat King Cole the singer, not to mention his appearing in several films. This week, Max Harrison concentrates on Cole's work with his trio, now with Irving Ashby (guitar) and Joe Comfort (bass). He also includes a 1950 session with the Stan Kenton
Orchestra, with Cole taking the leader's place at the keyboard.
