In recent years British reggae has devalued from its Jamaican parent, not only through the local phenomenon of Lovers' Rock but through bands which have respected life in Britain's black communities. But it took Steel Pulse to bring live reggae to the rock audience, and their success has cleared a path for a new generation of British reggae musicians. Steel Pulse themselves show signs of flagging and tonight's session demonstrates whether this noble band has a future to match its past.
