Dr. Dale received a letter from Maud's solicitors asking him to replace the fence between the two gardens. Monument did not turn up to work in the garden and the Dales decided he was keeping away until they forgot the burnt fence. Mrs. Freeman announced that she was going to take over Mr. Billings's antique shop with a partner she wouldn't name. Henry travelled up to King's Acre to do research into the Dale ancestors.
