The Doctor of Myddfai
Peter Maxwell Davies 's latest full-scale opera was commissioned by Welsh National Opera as part of its 50th-anniversary celebrations. The legend of the Doctor of Myddfai was brought to the composer's attention by David Pountney and the two worked on the libretto together. Tonight, Adrian Thomas explores the relationship between the composer and the Celtic and Norse cultures which have so often inspired him. Producer Gwyn Williams
