A short story by Lermontov.
Translated by R. Merton
Read by Paul Scofield.

This story forms part of Lermontov's semi-autobiographical novel A Hero of Our Time. The scene is the Caucasus, to which Lermontov was exiled after his incendiary poem on the death of Pushkin. The principal character, Pechorin, is a kind of clinical study of the Byronic hero-and so, in effect, of the author himself.
