WORLD OF DANCE Tango Trail

on BBC Radio 2

The second of four programmes in which
Tony Staveacre raids the record library for the best tracks of recorded tango music from Argentina and beyond. The roots of the tango are said to be found in Spanish dance, Cuban carnival parades, and North African religious rituals. In South America, it became the music of the brothels and generated a new dance style that emulated Creole knife fights.
Tango Original
Tonight, it's back to roots with recordings from early tango stars Gardel,
Ginastera and Anibal Troila , plus examples of links with other Latin music.
