Appeal on behalf of the Institute of Social Psychiatry, by Sir John Gielgud
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be sent to Sir John Gielgud , [address removed]
The Institute of Social Psychiatry has, for the last eighteen years, done pioneering work in the mental health field by means of the therapeutic social club, the day hospital, and the after-care rehabilitation centre. These three experiments have proved so successful that they are being put to wider use in this and other countries: they endeavour in their separate ways to replace the mental hospital and to help all those who suffer from various kinds of mental illness, extreme shyness, instability, and eccentricity.
In order to help more patients it is essential to start a new therapeutic hostel. This means buying and equipping a house. It is for this purpose and for the work of the Institute generally that the appeal is being made.
