Race for the Title

on BBC One London

A look back at the goals, stars, triumphs, disappointments and drama of the FA Premiership season.
The defending champions, Manchester United, conceded goals and points at an alarming rate in the autumn before recovering in the new year, and there was a sensation when Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan unexpectedly quit in mid-season. Meanwhile a "foreign legion" of imported stars made its impact on the top division, and Middlesbrough experienced highs and lows, with two Wembley finals and a desperate battle against relegation.
As well as the tussles at the top and bottom, there were managerial comings and goings, refereeing controversies, clashes between players, club takeovers and big transfers, which all made the 1996-7 Premiership season such a memorable campaign. Narrated by Jon Champion.
