The World Light-Middleweight Championship
Rocky Mattioli (Italy), Champion v Maurice Hope (GB) Challenger San Remo, Italy, is the scene of the first of several British assaults on world titles in 1979. Maurice Hope of London, 27-year-old former British and European Champion, met Eckhard Dagge of Germany for the World title in 1977. The result was a draw. Mattioli, 25, spent most of his early years in Australia, but returned to Europe to take the title from Dagge by a knock-out.
