In May 1971 at Bristol Assizes Peter Ransom, a labourer, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a Westonsuper-Mare teenager, John George. George died from a stab wound in the stomach. He had been walking home after saying goodnight to a girlfriend.
Tonight's programme tells the story of this murder in the words of people closely involved. It enquires into the reasons behind a senseless, needless crime.
