Man of Action

on BBC Radio 3

Sir Henry Plumb. President of the National Farmers' Union, makes a personal choice of records ranging from the folk song The Farmer's Boy - ' my own signature tune ' - to Suppg's Light Cavalry Overture played by the GRIME-THORPE COLLIERY BAND. MOSt Of the records are either associated with the countryside which he finds ' full of natural music ' - a dawn chorus, Vivaldi's The Seasons and Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony - or with his present work representing the farmers of Europe - Schiller's Ode to Joy in Beethoven's setting, the anthem of the EEC.
