Charles Durning Nick Nolte stars as Phil Elliott , professional American football player and waning star of the North Dallas Bulls. His enthusiasm for the game is undimmed until he meets the wealthy and beautiful Charlotte and becomes attracted by another lifestyle. But Phil soon discovers the hard rough and tumble of the play on the field is matched by the ruthlessness of the managers and coaches who resent his freewheeling spirit....
