Songs of Praise links Trafalgar Square with Tonga
A wintry Sunday night by the Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square; a palm-fringed coral beach, already drenched in Monday's sunshine.
The two are brought together by satellite as Christians on either side of the globe unite to sing their favourite carols and hymns.
The kingdom of Tonga is staunchly Methodist, and also an enthusiastic member of the Commonwealth.
Roger Royle meets The Rev Nigel Gilson, President of the Methodist Conference, by the grave of the first missionary to Tonga, and 'Inoke Faletau, Director of the Commonwealth Foundation - himself a Tongan. Rosalind Green, a young Methodist, travels to Tonga to be welcomed by Malakai Vakasiula's family; and Malakai comes to England to meet Rosalind's family and friends.
Go tell it on the mountain; Christians awake (Yorkshire); Jesus shall reign (Truro); Away in a manger; The zither carol; The Lord's prayer (African Sanctus); The day thou gavest, Lord (St Clement)
