2/5. In 1921 and 1922 Vaughan Williams wrote a series of fine works that paint a picture of a composer really finding his voice. He was never a professing Christian, yet this uniquely spiritual music gives rise to the notion of Vaughan Williams as a "Christian agnostic". Today Donald Macleod focuses on this sublime group of works. Motion and Stillness (Four Poems by Fredegond Shove) Benjamin Luxon (baritone), David Willison (piano)
Sanctus (Mass in G minor) Corydon Singers, conductor Matthew Best
The Shepherds of the Delectable Mountains (excerpt) Susan Gritton (soprano), Roderick Williams , Mark Padmore and Jeremy White

A Pastoral Symphony (Symphony No 3) Margaret Price (soprano), LPO, conductor Adrian Boult Repeated on Monday at 12 midnight
