Four programmes to include his works for solo instrument and orchestra
Bravura instrumental virtuosity, much cultivated in the 19th century and still alive in today's concerto writing, held little appeal for Vaughan Williams. His music for solo instrument, including seldom-heard works for violin, oboe, piano, bass-tuba, viola, and harmonica, which are all on a relatively small scale, will be presented alongside contemporary English music in these four centenary programmes.
