Julian Joseph introduces recordings by the group founded in 1971 by saxophonist Wayne Shorter and by keyboard player Joe Zawinul, who wrote much of the music. The line-up, which changed many times over the group's 15-year history, included percussionist Dom Um Romao and bassist Jaco Pastorius.
