Last programme in the series of stories about Britain's unsung heroes and heroines.
Tonight a pleasant surprise is sprung on social worker Margaret Humphrey. Following the forced evacuation of thousands of British orphans to Australia 50 years ago Margaret has, during the last ten years, re-united hundreds of emigrants with the British families they never knew they had.
Other awards go to 13-year-old Ben [name removed], who avoided an accident on the M5 by steering his unconscious father's car to safety; and Joan and Patrick Laurence who, for 20 years, have organised holidays for families with financial difficulties.
Presented by Esther Rantzen and Carol Smillie, who tonight are helped by Terry Waite and Eric Cantona.
