* Jack Lemmon in The Prisoner of Second Avenue

on BBC One London

Also starring
Anne Bancroft
Mel and Edna Edison live on the 14th floor of a New York City apartment house. The air-conditioning has broken down, the toilet flushes continuously and the noise from the neighbouring apartment is unbearable. Outside, the awful midsummer heat makes the stench of the garbage worse. Then, with events at their blackest, Mel losses his job.... Jack Lemmon and Anne Bancroft give characteristically brilliant performances as the victims of urban paranoia, in Neil Simon 's sophisticated, bitter-sweet comedy.
