Teenage Prisoners
Boys from 14 and girls from 15 can be sent to prison department establishments for certain offences But was their crime really a crime in the adult sense?
Many thousands of young people have been brought up in a parental environment of brutality and violence, even if they were not themselves battered babies. To what extent is this violence perpetuated by a period of confinement, and how should the sentence provide a protection for society and a penalty for the convicted?
Pat Rowe asks these questions and reflects the feelings of those concerned.
