(Fidelity Rewarded)
This three-act opera, to a libretto by Gianbattista Lorenzi , was composed for the inauguration in 1781 of the new opera house at Esterhaza, that replaced one which burnt down fifteen months earlier. The people of Cumae worship the goddess Diana, but her temple has been desecrated and there is a curse on the population.
Every year a pair of faithful lovers must be sacrificed to a sea monster. So fidelity is at a premium in Cumae. Sung in Italian. Fillide (contralto) (tenor) (mezzo) (baritone) (sop) (tenor) (bass) (sop)
