Sir Frank Whittle: Jet Pioneer

on BBC One London

On 15 May 1941 a diminutive experimental aircraft took off from Cranwell. It was known as the E28/39, and was the first British jet. The engine was the result of years of work by a dedicated RAF officer - Wg Cdr Frank Whittle - the man who invented the jet. Commentary by RAYMOND BAXTER
