Soldiers

on BBC One London

A History of Men in Battle Presented by Frederick Forsyth Cavalry
The horse has an honoured Place in the story of the soldier. His battle-winning days may long be over, but for generations the horse and the horse soldier were the shock arm of warfare. Some modern armies still find a ceremonial role for them out of respect for their past.
Their ancestors, Parthians, Huns, Turks, Mongols, dominated the field of battle for 3,000 years. The Middle
Ages gave us the knight in all his splendour. Even today there are still old soldiers who recall the heady days and the full power of the charge.
