DR. HENRY THOMAS is Deputy Keeper of Printed Books at the British Museum, and a scholar with wide acquaintance and sympathy with the past and present of Spain. Ho succeeded the late Spanish Ambassador, the Marquis de Merry del Val, as President of the Anglo-
Spanish Society. He has visited the country regularly for many years, and has just returned from his last visit.
