As Time Goes By

on BBC One London

After two series of "will-they-won't-they"
_ suspense, Jean Pargetter and Lionel Hardcastle are finally committed to a relationship that blossomed after a 38-year separation.
"I hope it gives people hope without being unrealistic," says Geoffrey Palmer , who plays old colonial Lionel. "Let's face it, any fellow of my age who's on his own might look at Judi Dench and fancy getting together with her. I think we' ve avoided the pitfalls of romantic fantasy; the characters are very defensive, they can be cantankerous and intolerant, just as I really am."
