Gwen decided to leave David. She planned to stay on at Gimlet Green for the time being. The Dales and the Owens were most upset on hearing the news. Bob and Jenny moved house Kate called on Jenny on the day of the move, and Jenny, feeling overwrought, quarrelled with her. Joanna told Mrs. Dale her baby's christening was to be on May 8 and asked her to be a godmother. Dr. Claughton told Dr. Dale that John Webster had promised to tell his sister without fail about their wedding.
