Three Generations of Bachs
BBC Chorus
(Chorus-Master. Leslie Woodgate ) Conducted by Mogens Woldike
The Bach family traced its musical tradition back to one Veit Bach. a miller who amused himself by playing on the zither and who died in 1619. Johann and Johann Chnstoph were both grandsons of Veit: the former, a great-uncle of Johann Sebastian, lived from 1604 to 1673; the latter, a cousin of Johann Sebastian's father, from 1642 to 1703. This programme shows the essential continuity of the family tradition which culminated in Johann Sebastian; it can be felt in the original and imaginative final cadence of Unser Leben and in the harmonic richness of Ich lasse dich nicht.
