Evan Harrington

on BBC Radio 4 FM

by George Meredith, dramatised in five parts by D.G. Bridson
with Anna Massey, Simon Cadell, Rosalind Ayres, Jill Balcon, Angela Pleasence and

The Countess has little difficulty in persuading Evan to abandon his duty and to stay at Beckley Court with Rose and her family. Despite the sneers of Rose's brother and his friends who had met Evan when he was not afraid to declare himself a tailor, Evan cannot tear himself away from his beloved - not even when she is responsible for an accident which befalls him. The Countess soon has half her family installed at Beckley Court, and it's unfortunate that one of the other guests should have known Old Mel and recognises his daughters. 3: Plot and Counterplot
