The Record Producers

on BBC Radio 1 England

The 15th, in a series of 18 programmes
Chinn and Chapman Introduced by Andy Peebles
NICKY CHINN and MIKE chapman were protigies of Mickie Most and, like him, they developed an almost infallible technique for creating chart success. As writers and producers they were able to personally supervise every stage in the making of hit singles, creating phenomenal success for themselves and for artists such as Sweet. Mud. Suzi Quatro and Smokie in the process. Their midas touch only wavered when punishing artistic criticism began to get to them. A move to the United States in the late 70s resulted in Mike Chapman successes with Exile. Nick Gilder , The Knack and more consistently with Blondie. Their own record company venture -
Dreamland - foundered disastrously last year, but a hit with the new Blondie album could restore some buoyancy.
A book to accompany the series will be available in May from booksellers
