THE TIME OF MY LIFE

on BBC Radio 4 FM

Dilys Powell journalist and film critic
Dilys Powell went up to Oxford in 1920. when young women were comparatively rare at the University and were expected to conform to the classic image of the blue-stocking. Miss Powell did not conform and was eventually rusticated -perhaps the first woman to be so disciplined—for the offence of climbing into her college, Somerville. after hours. In spite of this setback, she thinks of her career at Oxford as the time of her life.
