There is a look of such wretchedness on the face of lovely Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) at the end of this episode that you want to smother him in cashmere blankets and make him a nice pot of tea.
The poor love has much on his mind tonight. He accompanies Nana to hospital, where she undergoes crucial tests, while back at the Vic his adored Kat is preparing to deliver some bad news upon his return. And not only does Alfie arrive back to this particular blow, plus a tirade from his boss Phil Mitchell, but he is also on the receiving end of some unpleasant "advice" from Kat's well groomed thug of a fiance, Andy. Just leave him alone, the lot of you.
There are some touching scenes between Kat and Alfie, where much goes unspoken, so you might find that any impatience with this particular story and its protracted resolution starts to ebb.
The Vic itself is the subject of a major story, when Den informs Phil he wants to buy it. As Den later explains to his family: "It's my pub, it's where I belong." Quite right, too. (Alison Graham)
