Flood Threat to Nubian Antiquities
Introduced by Rex Keating
Radio Division, UNESCO
The building of the High Dam across the Nile at Aswan will flood an area stretching 300 miles southward to the Third Cataract in the Sudan. This area, the ancient Nubia, is covered with un-excavated sites. Archaeologists are now faced with the enormous task of exploring a great many sites in the short period of three years.
Rex Keating recently visited the area and recorded interviews with leading archaeologists in connection with the UNESCO appeal for international aid for the biggest rescue excavation in history.
