When Simon Corlett tells the Jacobite agent that there is a plot to hand him over to Colonel Charteris, O'Neill decides to take desperate measures. He cannot take the risk of his precious despatches falling into the hands of Government forces, so he and Simon arrange to make their escape ashore.
