Everest the Hard Way

on BBC One London

The story of Chris Bonington 's expedition.
Exactly a year ago the news came through from Katmandu that a British Expedition had conquered the ' last great mountaineering challenge', the South West Face of Everest. Forty-eight hours later, the triumph was marred by the death of cameraman Mick Burke on the second summit assault.
This is a new version of the historic film of the climb, which is this year's BBC entry for the Italia Prize. Narrator JOHN CASTLE
Bonington's recorded diary gave a whole new perspective to the adventure. This was the most human of mountaineering documentaries and also one of the most spectacular. (DAILY TELEGRAPH)
