The Southern Africa Disasters Emergency
Committee appeal now has £3.2 million in the bank to deal with the starving people of Southern Africa. It's widely expected within the agencies that it will eventually raise around L7 million. The catch is that the charities involved have to spend their money on the ground within six months.
