A Newcastle boy, Billy Ternent was playing at the age of twelve in the orchestra of the local theatre. At sixteen he was conducting for George Black. His arrangements for Jack Hylton , with whom he has worked since 1926, have stamped him a first-class musician, and he has travelled with Hylton all over the world.
