- an introduction to political thought Seven programmes presented by Brian Redhead
2: Augustine and Aquinas Augustine (AD 354-430) was one of the earliest Christian political thinkers. He developed his social and political theory in the second half of his massive work, The City of God. Whereas Plato is concerned with right order between men, Augustine is concerned with right order between man and God.
Aquinas sought to achieve a synthesis between pagan philosophy and Christianity. His theory of the State put European political thought on a new plane. With BRIAN REDHEAD to introduce these two outstanding thinkers are
Dr Janet Coleman of the University of Exeter and Dr Antony Black of the University of Dundee.
