The View from Voyager

on BBC Radio 4 FM

One of the most fruitful and expensive scientific experiments ever reached a climax last month when the spacecraft Voyager One flew within a few hundred thousand miles of the king of the planets - Jupiter. Close-up photographs of the planet and its satellites have revealed many unexpected features, including a ring similar to Saturn's, weather patterns much like those of Earth, and violent volcanic activity on the moon Io. Geoff Watts talks to members of the team controlling the probe at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California about the view from Voyager.
