Stockhausen Gruppen (conducted by Pierre Boulez, Elgar Howarth and Diego Masson)
Gruppen requires 109 players, subdivided into three separate orchestras, each with its own conductor. To maintain synchronisation, all three conductors need to see each other - resulting in the unusual spectacle of two orchestras in the promenade and one (conducted by Boulez) on the stage, all having their backs to the audience.
