In 1875 the dramatist August
Strindberg met Siri von Essen, the wife of a guards officer,
Baron Wrangel. She divorced Wrangel and married
Strindberg in 1877. They remained married, nominally, for 14 years, during which
Strindberg increasingly fell prey to bizarre jealousies, and Sin met Marie, a socialist and lesbian.
