Strauss embraces the philosophy of Nietzsche in Also Sprach Zarathustra. First performed in 1896 and dedicated to the 20th century, this monumental work came to represent an even more distant future when it was used as the theme of Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: a Space Odyssey.
Presented by Louise Fryer.
