The first of two Proms in which Dohnanyi conducts the Cleveland Orchestra.
The first work of this programme was commissioned jointly by the Orchestra and the Salzburg Festival, where Willi is composer in residence this year. Anya Silja , tonight's soloist, is Dohnanyi's wife.

As a fitting celebration of Dohnanyi's first decade with the Cleveland Orchestra, the magazine Musical America recently nominated him 1992 Conductor of the Year for his "extraordinary contribution to the world of music".
