The Dream Makers

on BBC Radio 4 FM

When you are asleep and dreaming, do you know you are dreaming, and can you direct the action? If so, you are having a 'lucid dream.' Such dreams have long been known and used by primitive tribes, but now lucid dreams are the subject of serious research in universities and medical laboratories. One dreamer, wired to a machine, can tap out a brief message in morse, or dream a pre-arranged course of action. There is now a machine which can cause a lucid dream to start. But what is the use of this research?

June Knox-Mawer talks with Dr Peter Fenwick, Dr Morton Schatzman, Dr Keith Hearne, Alan Worsley, Charles McCreery, Celia Green, Francis Huxley
